STUHLER’S 4th WIN DEDICATED TO CAR OWNERS
DAD, RED NININGER
Hagerstown, Md. – Gary Stuhler carried the momentum of a heat win into the Cindy
Rowe Auto Glass late model feature on Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway and
took the lead from Les Hare at the halfway mark to later hold off a hard
charging Paul Crowl by .276 seconds in the non stop 25-lap event timed in
9.52.037 minutes.
The victory was his fourth of the season aboard the Glenn Nininger Tire and Auto
Center late model as he dedicated the win to Glenn’s dad, Red.
“Red’s in the hospital in pretty bad shape,” Stuhler, of Greencastle, Pa. said.
“We miss him and wish he was here. He’s a guy that loved racing. He was one of
the guys I grew up watching racing. It’s been an honor to drive for Glenn and
have him (Red) around and listen to some of his stories. It’s a pretty neat
deal.”
In other race action, Richard Walls of St. Thomas, Pa was victorious in the
Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late models sportsman for the first time this season
after leading the final six laps. Darrin Younker of Berkley Springs, WV returned
for the first time in three weeks when his car was demolished in a wrong spot at
the wrong time crash to record his third win in the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises
pure stocks. “Krazy” Kenny Thomas of Keedyville, Md came all the way from the
rear in the 30-lap enduro to lead the final six circuits for his second win of
the season.
Frankie Plessinger led Les Hare from the pole for the first two laps of the
Cindy Rowe feature until Hare powered into the lead as Stuhler was past
Plessinger by lap six after starting fifth.
Hare continued to lead as Stuhler and Crowl trailed and by the 12th circuit,
Stuhler had closed in and ready to make his move. Around the outside he sped
past Hare and into the lead while Crowl joined the twosome as they pulled more
than two seconds ahead of Plessinger being challenged by Bo Feathers and J.T.
Spence.
While Stuhler was creeping away, Crowl got past Hare on the 17th and slowly
began reeling in Stuhler. He closed to Stuhler’s bumper and pulled alongside
while they also caught the rear of the field with one lap remaining. Stuhler
played his cards right to hold on for the final lap.
“I was hanging on there at the end,” Stuhler said. “I was really loose. I guess
it was Paul (Crowl) there, he just raced me decent. I was getting real bad there
at the end and using the lapped traffic to block him off without getting so
loose. We weren’t all that good, we just got to start up front.”
Feathers, who came from 12th got by Hare for third with one lap to go and earned
the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises hard charger award while Spence had to settle for
fifth. Devin Friese was sixth after passing Plessinger on the 23rd circuit as
Billy Wampler, Roy Deese Jr. and Brian Booze completed the top ten.
Heats for the 33 entries went to Stuhler, Spence, Crowl and Hare while Terry
Lescalleet won the consolation.
Terry Flaherty took the HMTA late model sportsman lead from the pole while James
Myers took over second and fifth starting Walls was into third by the second
lap. Walls took second on lap seven and surveyed his options on getting by
Flaherty. Catching a rear car on the 13th lap, the two swapped positions in the
second turn as Walls then sped into the lead until the 19th lap when the caution
came out. He prevailed by 1.054 seconds over Myers who charged around Flaherty
on the restart to grab the runner up spot. Pete Weaver and Barry Miller
completed the top five.
Flaherty, Steve Axtell and Walls won the heats. Mike Walls was the St. Thomas
Towing/Checkered Flag Lube Center hard charger.
After his car was destroyed, Younker began from the pole as Stamberg got into
second on the sixth lap with three successive cautions restraining the pace. On
the 11th lap restart, Younker sped over the final four circuits to keep Stamberg
at bay while Stamberg was fending off the challenges of Mike Warrenfeltz.
Younker’s win was by .810 seconds.
Mark Jones and Dean Holmes completed the top five.
“This one is so sweet,” Younker said. “This is a brand new car. These guys
worked for three solid weeks and here we are.”
Jones, Younker, Warrenfeltz and Holmes were heat winners for the 34 entries as
Kevin Keefer won the consolation. Sixth finisher Wayne Hawbaker was again the
21st Century Fireplace services hard charger after coming from 16th.
Jim Smith led the enduro event over R.C. Horn and Bill Silkworth while Thomas
was coming through the field from 30th. Thomas cracked the top five on lap 12
and after two laps in second, sped past Horn for the lead on the 25th lap while
Smith got and Kenny Thomas both got past Horn with one to go. Daniel Main was
fifth after starting 16th.
“I didn’t know where I was at,” Thomas said. “I just kept passing cars. I
actually thought I was finishing second.”

Feathers dominates final Shootout II event
plus wins Shootout point honors
Hagerstown, Md. – Bo Feathers didn’t hold anything back Saturday night at
Hagerstown Speedway after he developed engine problems in his own racer during
warm-ups and then climbed aboard Sean Cosgrove’s late model to completely
dominate the Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout II 40-lap final event sponsored by
Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic.
Feathers started third in the heads-up event on JLG Family Night, took the lead
from Brent Smith on lap seven and then saw the checkered flag 3.2878 seconds
ahead of fifth starter, Jeremy Miller. The win was his season third Hagerstown
triumph and also gave him his first Shootout title coupled with the April win at
Winchester and seconds at both tracks.
“This is better than what I got,” Feathers said of Cosgrove’s Rocket chassis.
“It started off not good in warm-ups. It puked some oil out the valve cover and
when it does that, it’s not good so we just put it in the trailer. Sean came
over and told me he had a good car tonight and said ‘I’ll let you drive it. If I
had the same problem, you’d let me have your car.’”
“Bo was fighting for the points and I know he’d to do the same for me,” Cosgrove
said. “He’s a good friend. I didn’t want to see him lose this deal over his
motor so he got the ride and won it.”
The lineup was drawn for a heads up feature start placing Brent Smith and Roy
Deese on the front as Smith powered in front over Deese and Feathers. Back to
back cautions on laps four and five saw Nathan Durboraw and then Andy Anderson
stop but rejoin the field.
While Smith was trying to hold off Feathers and Deese, a lane change to the
outside Feathers found Deese there but not quickly enough to back off and
contact made with his left front resulting in a broke steering and his tire
angled at a 45 degrees to bring him to a stop on lap eight.
Following the restart, Miller slid into second while Gary Stuhler took third
from Smith on lap 11 but Feathers was checking out and by the 17th lap, had
opened more than a three second lead and on lap 21, entered the rear of the
field.
While Feathers was on cruise control, Stuhler closed on Miller and took the
runner up spot on the 23rd circuit, but Miller regained it the next circuit.
Durboraw again coasted to a stop on lap 28 to end his evening but Feathers
comfortably slipped ahead again on the restart while 23rd starter, Kirk Ryan was
then in the playing field, taking fourth from Smith.
The 33rd circuit saw disaster for Anderson who went straight into the third turn
fence and destroyed his car with Tommy Armel also making contact.
With seven circuits to go, Feathers again stood on the gas and never left off
until the checkered waved.
“You never have it wrapped up until you see the checkered flag fall and when you
have those guys behind you, (Miller, Stuhler and Ryan) they’re coming for you,”
Feathers said.
Behind him, Miller was in control of second, but Ryan was being challenged by
Jamie Lathroum until he broke free and concentrated his efforts on Stuhler. Ryan
took third from Stuhler with one to go with Stuhler narrowly beating Lathroum to
the line by less than two feet to complete the top five. Smith completed his run
in sixth with Allen Brannon, Dennis Franklin, J.T. Spence from 18th and Jack
Pencil to complete the top then.
The final Shootout Points (based on finishing positions) were: 1.Feathers, 6;
2.J.T. Spence, 25; 3.Andy Anderson, 27; 4.Allen Brannon, 32; Gary Stuhler, 44.
Heats for the 44 entries were Smith, Deese, Feathers and Franklin with Less Hare
and Ronnie DeHaven winning the two B mains.
Arlin Brougher of East Berlin, Pa only led the final lap of the 25-lap double
point Hoosier Daddy for the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Sportsman but it was the
one counted for him to become the first repeat winner. Brougher did it the hard
way after being involved in a multi car crash on the opening lap after starting
18th. He won by .174 seconds over Brian Lessley.
When Barry Lear got crossed up on the backstretch, Brougher was one of nine cars
involved, but luckily, one of the few that were able to restart.
Al Shawver Sr. led from the pole over James Myers as 11th starter Lessley who
avoided the melee was challenging Scott Palmer for third until taking the spot
on lap seven and then taking second from Myers on the tenth.
Twelfth starter, Andy Fries joined the battle for the lead following a tenth lap
restart with Shawver holding on until a three wide assault with Fries outside
and Lessley down low and coming out ahead on the 16th circuit. Fries went into
second with the two battling for the top spot as Brougher slipped into third and
intently watched.
When Lessley got out of shape from Fries contact and both slipping high after
getting the white flag, Brougher quickly sped under them and on to receive the
checkered.
“After we had to go back there on the start, I didn’t know what would happen,”
Brougher said. “The car was on tonight and we got lucky. That was Lessley’s or
Fries’ race to win, but they got together a little bit and I got inside of them
and I made it here.”
Brougher also was the St. Thomas Towing/ Checkered Flag Lube Center hard
charger. Fries recovered for third while Shawver and Kyle Lear, also involved in
the initial crash, completed the top five.
Heats for the 30 entries went to Shawver, Terry Flaherty and Fries while Tyler
Hershey was the consolation winner.
Next on the schedule (June 23rd) is a regular point show for the three
divisions, the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models, Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late
model sportsman and
Ernie’s Auto Enterprises pure stocks. Also included on the program will be the
fourth 30-lap Enduro Dash of the season. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with the
grandstands at 5 p.m. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. followed by feature racing. Check

JONES SCORES SECOND FOR STEWART IN LUCAS
OIL USAC SPRINT EASTERN TOUR; SAGI’S SECOND LATE MODEL ONLY BY INCHES
HAGERSTOWN, MD: Starting sixth and taking the lead on lap two, Levi Jones was
cruising out front the remaining 29 circuits to score victory in the first ever
appearance of the Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Car Series event Saturday night
at Hagerstown Speedway. His fourth win of the season aboard the Tony Stewart
Racing Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/ Chevy just .362 seconds ahead of Brady
Short after being settled in a one lap shootout when teammate Ricky Stenhouse
went over the turn one fence on lap 29.
Coupled with his win Wednesday night at Grandview and Stenhouse’s score in
Thursday’s event at Big Diamond Speedway, Stewart Racing had a clean sweep of
the tour. Earlier, Jones, of Olney, Ill. set quick time of 19.604 on Frank
Plessinger’s half mile oval.
“I lost my brakes on that restart, I think I only had a left front brake,” Jones
said. “I think Brady went with a little harder tire. The yellows came out at the
right time. What a swing. I love coming to Pennsylvania and Maryland and hope to
come back a whole week next year and hit all these great places out here.”
In the double header program, Hagerstown’s Alan Sagi sped from the final turn to
score his career second triumph in the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models by a
scant .003 seconds over Nathan Durboraw.
Brady Bacon and Neil Shepherd occupied the front row as Shepherd got the shot
from the second turn to pull out and lead the first circuit, but Jones was
quickly making up ground and seized the top spot before the second lap was in
the books.
By a lap four yellow, Stenhouse was to second after starting ninth while the
Kasey Kahne entry with Bacon at the wheel was third and fending off the
challenges of Short following the restart until Short secured third on lap
eight.
With consecutive cautions on laps 11 and 12, Short had already cleared Stenhouse
twice and had to relinquish the spot but made his pass stick on the 14th
circuit. As he slowly began to close on Jones, Darren Hagen moved into third
after starting tenth and was nearly two seconds back.
Short was tailing Jones when they starting through the rear of the field and
when a caution came out on lap 23 but following the restart, Jones opened some
distance on Short until lap 29 when Brad Sweet and Stenhouse got together
battling for sixth. Stenhouse was over the turn one fence while Sweet was towed
off after contact with the fence.
The one lap dash found Jones ahead by .0362 over Short with Shepherd, Mat Neely,
from 17th and Bacon. Kevin Swindell was sixth after starting 19th with Shepherd,
Jimmy Light (23rd), Jimmy Fitz, (20th), and Dave Darland completed the top ten.
Lucas Wolfe picked up an additional $100 destined to the 11th place finisher
from the Williams Grove Beer Hill Gang, which also is one of his sponsors.
“We were really coming strong,” Short said. “We had the fastest car out here but
the cautions just killed us. We couldn’t get racing. People complained because
the track was slick but I love smooth race tracks. We had the only car that
could roll through the middle.”
Frankie Plessinger and Les Hare led the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models to the
green as Plessinger pulled out and stretched his lead to two seconds by a lap
nine yellow. Plessinger maintained control following the restart as Brian Booze
got past Hare on the 12th lap leaving him to battle with sixth starter, Durboraw
and eighth starting Sagi.
Plessinger was more than a second ahead when Durboraw passed Booze for second on
lap 14 and sat on his bumper for a lap 17 restart and charged around the outside
on the restart.
Sagi was still charging and past Plessinger on lap 23 and had closed to less
than two lengths on Durboraw when the yellow came out on lap 24 when Paul Crowl
spun and showed his displeasure at Marvin Winters.
Sagi was on him from the drop of the green and had enough room to squeeze under
him exiting the final turn and with electronic scoring, the distance was .003
seconds.
“I’ll tell you what, Nathan Durboraw is a tough customer,” Sagi said. “He’s won
more races on this track than anybody if you put together the late model and
limited late model races so I feel honored to beat him. It was a heck of a race.
I was doing all I could do and I know he was too. It was a good clean race.
That’s the kind you like to win. Things just worked out, just barely.”
Sagi dedicated the win to Shirley Ebersole who lost her mother, Helen, earlier
in the week. Helen was the oldest living member of the ARCH (Auto Racing Club of
Hagerstown)
Kirk Ryan ended third after starting 15th and earned the Ernie’s Auto
Enterprises hard charger award while J.T. Spence and Plessinger completed the
top five.
Booze finished sixth ahead of Marvin Winters, Roy Deese, Jr., Ronnie DeHaven Jr.
and Bo Feathers.
Racing resumes Saturday night (June 16th) with the 40-lap Cindy Rowe Auto Glass
late model feature to end the four race series of Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout
II. Also included on the double header program is the Hoosier Daddy, a special
25 lap event for the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman division.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., the grandstands at 5 p.m. with warm ups beginning at 7
p.m.

Babb’s first Hagerstown visit pays off
with $10,000 WoO Conococheague victory
HAGERSTOWN, MD – Shannon Babb was the man in charge Saturday night in Hagerstown
Speedway’s 26th Annual Conococheague 50 after setting fast time in the World of
Outlaw Late Model Series event and then leading the entire 50 laps to score the
$10,000 victory on his first ever visit to Frank Plessinger’s Maryland facility.
It was the fourth WoO victory of the season for Babb, of Moweaqua, IL, who came
to the event sitting a close third in the WoO point standings. Babb pilots the
Car City/J&J Steel/All-Star Performance Rayburn Chassis late model.
“I called Rayburn on the way here and he said I was up the river without a
paddle,” Babb said. “He said just try my best and do everything you know and
what you’ve been doing. I threw some things at it. It was unbelievable. This is
my first time here and everybody was right about what they said about the track.
It’s smooth and slick and you can race all over. I was really impressed.”
Following a draw for the top twelve positions, Clint Smith and Jason Covert
occupied the front row with Gary Stuhler and Babb behind them. Babb was up on
the wheel from the start, as he went to the high side around Covert and led the
charge from the second turn with Smith, Covert and Stuhler chasing.
The first caution waved on the sixth lap when seventh place Tim McCreadie looped
his car in the second turn. Following the restart, Smith was giving Babb his
best as the pair ran side by side for a half dozen laps before Babb escaped his
clutches and begin to edge away.
Babb caught the rear of the field on lap 20 and in another three laps, the
second and final caution came out when 10th running Chris Madden’s car went up
in smoke. Just before the restart, Rick Eckert suddenly ducked into the pits
with a flat tire.
On the restart, Covert went to work on Smith while Chub Frank charged around
Stuhler to take the fourth spot. Covert’s efforts materialized with the advance
into the runner up spot on lap 27 as Smith didn’t give up easily for several
laps. Covert rebuffed Smith’s challenges until the time Babb was already hammer
down more than two seconds ahead and getting ready to enter the rear of the
field again on the 40th circuit.
Babb progressed past several of the rear cars while Covert and Smith also
started wading through but Covert was quickly closing the gap and came to within
three lengths at the checkered.
Smith, the point leader, easily held to third over Frank while tenth starter,
Josh Richards occupied fifth. Sixth went to Shane Clanton with 12th starting
Steve Francis, Stuhler, Bo Feathers, from 21st and 18th starting Darrell Lanigan
completing the top ten.
McCreadie, Frank, Smith and Stuhler won the heats while John Blankenship and
Lanigan won the B Mains. Kirk Ryan Jr. was the track provisional while Eddie
Carrier Jr. and Tim Fuller were WoO provisional starters.
Covert received an additional $500 for being the highest finisher not in the top
12 in WoO points.
In the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises pure stocks, Mark Jones of Greencastle, Pa. took
control with four laps remaining to score his second win of the season by two
lengths over Dean Holmes.
Brian Swiger led from the outside pole and led by nearly three seconds by a
fifth lap caution as Jones came from tenth to second. Swiger saw the big
picture, his career first win, and did an excellent job of holding Jones through
two restarts, but it was the third on lap ten that got him.
Swiger led only by inches on the 11th circuit as Jones went high and then held
off a charging Holmes with the order rearranged following post race inspections
of the top five.
“I got a good run on him on that restart and I just ended up top,” Jones said.
“I saw his guys keep telling him to run the bottom. I kept trying him there and
he wasn’t coming off it, so if you’re second, you got to find something out
there.”
Drew Fitzsimmons, Swiger and Tony Catlett completed the top five with seventh
place Wayne Hawbaker picking up the 21st Century Fireplace Services Hard Charger
Award.
Mike Warrenfeltz, Bobby Taylor and Swiger were heat winners with Billy Ecton,
Jr. winning the consolation.

Arlin Brougher shakes monkey in Charity
Race Special
Hagerstown, Md. – Beginning his fourth season at Hagerstown Speedway, Arlin
Brougher finally got into the winners column Friday night during a special
Exhibition Charity event for the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman
division. Donations were accepted from attending race fans that goes to Speedway
Children’s Charity.
Brougher, of East Berlin, Pa., is a multi winner graduate of the four cylinder
mini stocks and since moving up, he’s had seconds and various top five finishes,
but the sun’s just never shined on him. The special 25-lap double point race was
his to lose after starting ninth, taking the lead on the 13th circuit and
continuing to the checkered 7.084 seconds ahead of Pete Weaver who took the
runner up spot on the final circuit. Brougher also took over in the HTMA points
lead for his performance.
“This is really one tough division and there are so many fast cars here,
“Brougher said. “You just have to have everything go right to get a win. As far
back as we started, I told the guys, I said “’I don’t know. We’ll see.’”
From point average lineup, Mike Walls (St. Thomas) grabbed the lead from his
pole position over Cory Houck and Richard Walls with Walls pulling away a
comfortable distance until a sixth lap caution. Walls continued to show the way
on the restart as the race for second was ongoing with Brougher finally securing
the spot on the ninth lap.
Houck’s chance at a top spot ended on the 11th with a flat tire as Brougher
sized the situation and charged around Walls into the lead on lap 13.
Following a 14th lap 360 degree spin by third place Steve Axtell that also
involved follower, Brian Lessley who continued past, Brougher was off and
running. He was on a rail as he separated himself from Walls each and every lap
while Walls was overtaken by Lessley on the 21st circuit but Brougher was
nowhere to be found by that time and more than a straightway ahead at the
checkered as Weaver, into third with four to go, got the runner up spot off the
final turn.
“This is one race I was wishing was 20 laps. I looked at the scoreboard and saw
14 laps and I thought ‘Man we still have nine to go’, Brougher said “Chad (Rohrbaugh)
was showing me I was pulling away and I knew if I just kept my line and kept
going the way I was going, I’d be alright.”
Fourth went to Kyle Lear, who came from the 13th spot, earning him the Checkered
Flag Lube/St Thomas Towing hard charger award as Walls held to fifth. Andy
Fries, who was rear ended before the start and pitted with a flat tire for the
restart, came all the way from the rear to claim sixth with Brad Houck (14th),
Fred Harden (15th), Scott Palmer and Richard Walls completing the top ten.
Heat winners for the 31 entries were Lessley, M. Walls and Brougher with Michael
Collins getting the consolation win.
In the Enduro Dash postponed from April 14th. Derek Riley, of Middletown, Md.
was victorious after battling with previous week’s winner, Mark Vegh to score
the 30 lap victory, one year and five days since his last trip to victory lane.
Larry Hurley Jr. led the procession from the third spot over James Mongan while
Riley came from a distant 22nd into third by lap seven and took the lead on the
14th. Vegh arrived from 30th the following lap and went ahead on the 18th, but
Riley charged back to lead the final ten circuits.
Glenn Elliott of Sykesville, Md. led all the way in the special All American
Outlaws event sponsored by Roy’s Body Shop and M.T. Laney of Eldersburg, Md.
Elliott grabbed the lead from the outside pole and was 15 lengths ahead of
Martin Greybeal at the finish.
Racing continues Saturday (this) evening with the 12th Annual Richard ‘Boney”
Bonebrake Tribute for the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models. The HTMA late model
sportsman and the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises pure stocks are also included on the
program.

Gary Stuhler increases wins to three on
Hagerstown’s Student Night
Hagerstown, Md. – Gary Stuhler played by the numbers Saturday night during
Hagerstown Speedway’s Student Night as he led all the way in the Cindy Rowe Auto
Glass late model feature following an eight car inverted start to score his
season third victory and overall fourth. The win increased his career total to
121.
“We were pretty decent, but the starting helped a bunch,” the veteran from
Greencastle, Pa stated. “I got to run my own pace and run where I needed to be
on the race track.”
Stuhler’s job wasn’t all that easy despite starting from the front as he was
joined by some heavy hitters, but at the end, was to the stripe five lengths
ahead of Jeremy Miller.
“I looked at the scoreboard and I saw Kirk (Ryan) for awhile and then seen Bo
(Feathers) and knew he came from the consy,” Stuhler said.” I tried running his
deal and that wasn’t any good so I just got back up top. I saw when Jeremy got
to second and I knew he was pretty good. We weren’t all that great…we just got
to start up front and that makes it that much easier.”
In the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman and Ernie’s Auto
Enterprises pure stock features, the racing was phenomenal in the battle for the
lead but in the end, it was Jerry Bard of Shippensburg, Pa. breaking into the
lead at the halfway mark after dropping back to third and going on to claim
victory by more than two seconds over defending sportsman champion, Andy Fries.
In the Ernie’s pure stocks, Hagerstown’s Mike Warrenfeltz had no room for error
as he slipped through traffic after starting tenth until getting at the front
and managed to hold off Kenny Dillon by two lengths for his second win of the
season. Mark Vegh of Frederick, Md. started third in the Enduro Dash and got the
lead on the sixth lap. He continued to run the inside each time he got to
traffic and stayed out front with Matt Smith taking over the second spot at the
halfway mark but was a half straightaway behind.
Stuhler grabbed the top spot over pole setter Brent Smith while Brian Booze took
second on lap two with sixth starting Kirk Ryan speeding past Booze for second
on the fifth lap while Stuhler was nearly two seconds ahead as the caution came
out on the seventh lap for debris on the track with Booze slowed with mechanical
problems.
Mike Lupfer moved past Ryan for second but Feathers had charged through the
field from 21st and grabbed the runner up spot right before an 11th lap yellow
when Smith coasted to a stop.
Feathers looked under Stuhler on the restart as the pair battled for the top
spot with Stuhler high and Feathers rounding the bottom while Miller had then
arrived in third on the 13th circuit after starting 15th.
Stuhler edged away from Feathers while Miller worked hard to get the runner up
spot and finally succeeded three laps later as he began to close the gap and was
to within three lengths when Roy Deese Jr’s right rear flat brought out the
caution with two laps remaining.
Stuhler made the best of the final circuits to claim the victory over Miller
with Andy Anderson winning out over Feathers in the final circuits as Ryan held
on for the fifth spot. Sixth went to Alan Sagi with Jamie Lathroum, Lupfer, J.
T. Spence, from 18th and 25th starter, Darryl Hills completing the top ten.
Anderson, Lupfer, Ryan and Sagi won the heats for the 36 late models while
Feathers won the consolation. Feathers was also the Ernie’s Auto Hard Charger.
The sportsman event was a three car inversion with Scott Palmer on the pole and
taking the lead while Fries tucked into second ahead of outside starter, Bard.
The threesome ran under a blank following a third lap restart with Fries taking
the top spot on the eighth lap as he and Palmer swapped the front position until
Bard quickly broke loose and charged ahead on the 11th circuit. Bard simply
began to easily pull away and continued to stretch his lead until the finish.
“I couldn’t ask for a better car tonight. That car was perfect,” Bard said. “I
figured it was early in the race and I wasn’t going to press my luck by trying
to stick my car between Scott and Andy earlier. The car was good and I thought
I‘d bide my time as I saw Andy pushing in the turns. I figured sooner or later I
was going to get him.”
Palmer ended third with Arlin Brougher and Tyler Hershey completing the front
five. Pete Weaver, Barry Miller, Steve Axtell, Richard Walls and James Myers
completed the top ten. Myers was the Checkered Flag Lube/ St. Thomas Towing hard
charger.
Heats went to Fries, Bard and Palmer with Kyle Lear winning the consolation for
the 31 entries.
Warrenfeltz started tenth as he maneuvered through the two and three wide racing
at the front and got to third by the fifth lap caution when previous winner,
Darrin Younker’s car broke while running fourth.
Mark Jones took the lead on lap four as Warrenfeltz went to work but soon had
Kenny Dillon coming on the outside. A 12th lap caution set up the finish as Hans
Stamberg charged past Jones to take third with two to go. Wayne Hawbaker ended
fifth after starting 18th and earned the 21st Century Fireplace Services hard
charger award.
“I knew Mark was fast and knew if I could get under him and keep the inside and
then
I saw the 21 on the board,” Warrenfeltz said. “I knew Kenny was on the outside
coming and I looked over my shoulder to see if that yellow front end was there.
He flies up on the top. I didn’t know which one to block, Mark or him.”
Warrenfeltz, Younker and Dave Stouffer Jr. were heat winners and Tony Catlett,
the consolation winner for the 30 entries.
The speedway returns this weekend with a double header program beginning Friday
night with a free admission program featuring the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic late

Feathers stayed high to take it all the
way to the checkered on ARCH Night
Hagerstown, Md. – Winchester, VA’s Bo Feathers led all the way in the seasons
first point event for the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models as he scored his
career fourth Hagerstown Speedway victory by five lengths over Gary Stuhler.
Feathers added a winners flag to his collection following the victory on ARCH
(Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown) night.
In the first point event for the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman
division, Barry Miller recorded his second career victory and his first since
September 2003. Mike Warrenfeltz, Hagerstown, and Darrin Younker of Berkley
Springs, WV, split the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises pure stock events, Warrenfeltz
taking the make up from the previous week while holding off Younker. “Krazy”
Kenny Thomas of Keedysville, Md. was the third different leader in the season
first Enduro dash and scored the win by four seconds over Kenny Thomas of
Greencastle, Pa.
Lined up by a six car inversion, Feathers started outside Brian Booze on the
front row as he quickly charged around Booze in the first turns to secure the
lead while Stuhler moved into the runner up spot on the third circuit.
Following a fifth lap restart when Alan Sagi slowed to a stop, Jeremy Miller
followed into the third spot while Feathers continued to chase the high side of
the corners and arrived at the rear of the field by the 14th lap.
Marvin Winters, running seventh, coasted to a stop to bring out a lap 16 caution
as Feathers, Stuhler and Miller were setting the pace and Kirk Ryan had entered
the top five after starting 19th.
Miller was challenging Stuhler for second but then had Ryan peeking to his
inside but at the finish, Feathers was to the line first with Stuhler, Miller
and Ryan following. After a numerous lap battle and position swapping, Ronnie
DeHaven secured the fifth spot on the 22nd circuit as J. T. Spence settled for
sixth. Nathan Durboraw, Roy Deese Jr., Darryl Hills and Booze completed the top
ten.
“That’s a running car. I was just barely turning the wheel, “Feathers said.” The
car drove so well. I watched Barry Miller win that sportsman race and I thought
it had be good up there as nobody was dropping to the bottom trying to pass. I
figured I’d just stay up there.”
J. Miller, Winters, and Stuhler won the heats for the 32 entries with Ryan
winning the consolation. Ryan also was the hard charger.
Miller started from the pole by virtue of a nine car inverted start as he
grabbed the lead while Scott Palmer and Andy Fries were into the next positions
by the second circuit. Following a lap seven restart, Fries took over second the
next circuit but Miller comfortably had the race in control as two seconds ahead
by a lap 17 yellow. Miller easily sped away in the final three circuits to take
the checkered by ten lengths over Fries with Arlin Brougher having third. Palmer
and Jerry Bard completed the top five. Former pure stock driver, Ashley Barrett
was sixth while Cory Houck, Brian Lessley, Mike Walls and James Myers completed
the top ten.
“I know Andy is a good driver and he was good in the heat race,” said Miller. “I
know he likes the high side up where I was. He’s not too often on the bottom, so
I thought that was working in my favor.”
Barrett, Steve Axtell Jr. and Fries won the heats for the 24 entries. Cody Lear
was the St. Thomas Towing/ Checkered Flag Lube Center hard charger.
In the pure stock make up from April 28th, Younker started from the pole while
Warrenfeltz was quickly into second by lap two and ahead the next. Younker, Dean
Holmes and Hans Stamberg were all challenging by the seventh lap. Younker had
his nose under with two to go, but Warrenfeltz continued another two circuits to
win by a length. Holmes, Stamberg and Kenny Dillon completed the top five.
“I looked out with two to go and saw a white fender,” Warrenfeltz said “I told
myself, ‘You’re on the brakes too much, you have to push the gas pedal down’.
He‘ll race you clean, it turned out our way. Maybe next time it’ll be his way.”
Stamberg, Dave Stouffer and Warrenfeltz won the heats. Wayne Hawbaker was the
21st Century Fireplace Services hard charger.
In the regular feature with six cars inverted, Younker used the outside pole to
his advantage as Stamberg moved into second and was putting some moves on
Younker. A single caution on lap nine reset the field but Stamberg continued to
pull alongside but never sealed the deal as Younker took the win by two lengths
with Holmes taking third for the second time of the night over Mark Jones and
Dillon, from 15th.
“This is great, it’s been over ten years since I’ve won here,” Younker said. “My
hat’s off to Hans. He could have leaned on me, but he didn’t. I was definitely
going to take up the line he wanted. I knew if those guys were going to go
around me, they’d have to go around on the bottom. I was getting a decent bite
around the middle.”
Stamberg, Holmes and Tony Catlett were the heat winners while Steve Lowery won
the consolation. Dillon was the 21st Century Fireplace Services hard charger.
After a week off for the 2nd Annual Hagerstown Firefighters Bonanza
Extravaganza, the speedway returns to action on May 19th for Student Night for
another regular three division program including the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late
models, Hoosier/ HTMA late model sportsman and the Ernie’s Auto Enterprises pure
stocks along with the second enduro dash of the season.

Andy Anderson scores first in
Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout I,
Mark Jones posts opening pure stock victory
Hagerstown, Md. – In the first program to proceed with decent weather this
season, Andy Anderson toured Hagerstown Speedway at a blistering pace on Friday
night to capture Shootout I of the Hagerstown/Winchester series sponsored by
Hoosier Tire/ Hoosier Tire Mid- Atlantic.
The defending series winner from Martinsburg, WV led all the way from the
outside pole in the eight car inverted start and held off several challenges
from Bo Feathers to score the victory in the special two weekend series between
the two speedways.
“We didn’t win one of these features last year, but won the overall series,”
Anderson recalled.
When questioned on his cars handling, Anderson, replied, “Actually, the car was
tight all night. I had to run three wheel brakes and that’s something I normally
don’t do. I was watching the scoreboard and saw Bo coming. He always races me
clean.”
In the first Ernie’s Auto Enterprise pure stock event of the season, Mark Jones
took over on lap five in the 20-lap point double point event after starting on
the outside front row in a four car inversion. Jones won by a car length over
Hans Stamberg, who tried on various occasions to take the top spot.
“We’re two for two now,” the Greencastle, PA driver stated. “We won at
Winchester the other week. We got lucky and started up front in both of them.
From last year, this car was tore completely apart and I said ‘Make sure you put
everything back the way you had it’ and they did. We’re off to a good start.”
When the green flag waved for the late model field, a complete restart was
needed when Gary Stuhler was sitting backwards in turn one after starting third.
On the restart, Jim Bernheisel and Anderson paced the field as Anderson pulled
out ahead of J. T. Spence, who started from the fourth spot and Feathers, who
advanced into third on the complete restart.
Anderson led while Feathers was attempting to take the runner up spot from
Spence and Jason Covert advanced from eighth to occupy fourth.
Following a lap 12 restart, Feathers overpowered Spence for second and Covert
then began looking at third but Spence didn’t give away the spot easily as they
swapped the spot a few times before Covert had control on the 17th circuit.
Cautions on laps 21 and 25 kept the field closed but following the restart,
Anderson began to slip ahead and opened a 12 car length lead on Feathers while
Covert was nearly three seconds further behind. Darryl Hills finally succeeded
in getting past Spence for the fourth spot on lap 27.
Feathers had closed the gap and ready to mount a challenge when Anderson was at
the back of the field but then the caution came out on lap 35 to again close up
the field. Anderson appeared to find some extra throttle following the restart
and quickly began to pull away to another lead until a final caution on the
white flag lap gave Feathers his final opportunity which he could only watch
Anderson scoot ahead to score the triumph by several lengths.
Covert maintained third over while Spence made a serious bid to retake fourth
but ended just inches short at the line. Eleventh starter Dan Stone ended sixth
with Bernheisel, Alan Brannon who gained three spots in the final lap, Billy
Wampler and Brian Booze completing the top ten.
Heats for the 55 entries were won by Covert, Hills, Kirk Ryan, Feathers and
Spence with Gerald Davis and Frankie Plessinger winning the consolations.
Mike Bennett led the first four laps while Jones and Stamberg were all over him
for the top spot until Jones got by. Jones began to open up some room while
Bennett was still being challenged by Stamberg with Mike Warrenfeltz joining in.
A caution regrouped the field with two to go as Stamberg again attempted to
overtake Jones but settled for second. Warrenfeltz was third over Dean Holmes
and Bennett. Kenny Dillon ended sixth ahead of Bobby Taylor, Drew Fitzsimmons,
Ray Priest and Wayne Hawbaker, who came from 25th.
Heats for the 35 entries were Dillon, Lin Sutphin, Jones and Bennett with Kevin
Keefer and Kevin Dayhoff taking the consolation wins.
Next up on Saturday April 28th is the 26th Annual Stanley Schetromph Classic
featuring the Lucas Oil Series in a 50-lap $10,000 to win event. The Ernie’s
pure stocks will again be competing in a double point event.

CINDY ROWE AUTO GLASS RETURNS AS
HAGERSTOWN LATE MODEL SPONSOR
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Promoter Frank Plessinger announced that Cindy Rowe
Auto Glass in Harrisburg, PA will be returning as the point fund for the
late model division at Hagerstown Speedway for their 60th Anniversary
season.
Drivers in the late models will begin their quest for the Cindy Rowe
title beginning with Saturday, April 14th. Roy Deese Jr. of Laurel, MD
became the first driver to earn the Cindy Rowe title last season when he
won his fifth overall championship.
"We are very pleased to have Cindy Rowe Auto Glass return as the sponsor
of our premier division during the Anniversary season," Plessinger said.
"Our late model division is fortunate to have the largest weekly car
count and competition second to none. Just like the sprint drivers at
other tracks she sponsors, our drivers are also fortunate to know that
someone like Cindy Rowe and her business associates are committed to
them as their sponsor."
In business more than 20 years, Cindy Rowe Auto Glass involvement with
racing goes back many years from a race car sponsor to the point fund
sponsor for Central Pennsylvania open wheel tracks. After Silver Spring
Speedway closed last season, the opportunity was there to join with
Hagerstown. This came in hand with the opening of two more stores in
both Hagerstown at 181 Salem Avenue (301-665-1919) and Chambersburg at
1380 Lincoln Way East (717-263-7700), which broadened their horizons to
twelve separate locations throughout south central Pennsylvania.
"Things are going great at both Hagerstown and Chambersburg," Dave
Taylor, chief operating officer, said. "I just did a seminar to the
whole trade industry on how you build a brand name. Everything you do
all of the time is building a brand name and create top of mind
awareness, who you are and what you do. In the branding issue, that's
what we're about. We try to be on the top of that person's mind. Racing
gives us a very unique opportunity to talk to a lot of people. It's a
loyal group of people out there. When something happens, we're the name
we want you to think of."
Cindy Rowe Auto Glass will again be the title sponsor of the
Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek with the sprints competing at Hagerstown
for their segment of the eight race series on Wednesday, July 4th
In 1980, the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass began business in Harrisburg, PA.
Complete glass replacement was included as part of their glass services
in 1987 and in 1992, the new system of paintless dent repair became an
offering at their locations. Their locations provide both mobile and
in-shop services.

Tim Fuller comes from 18th for Super DIRT
Series triumph,
Jeremy Miller scores season first in late models
Hagerstown, Md. – If anything, Tim Fuller made it look easy following a
steadfast run from 18th to first by the 32nd lap and later claim Saturday’s
Advanced Auto Parts Super DIRT Series modified Syracuse Eckert 200 qualifier win
at Hagerstown Speedway. The $6,000 victory was the DIRT Series career 15th for
the driver who hails from Edwards, NY.
In the accompanying Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late model feature, Jeremy Miller
benefited from the inversion draw and led all the way to claim his first for the
season. Miller, of Littlestown, PA, was the Northeast’s leading late model
winner last season with 15 scores.
Fuller methodically worked his way to the front and moved into fifth place on
lap 21, second on lap 29 and then took the point from Billy Decker on the 32nd.
After moving into lapped traffic on lap 78, he continued to put up to five cars
between himself and Gary Tompkins with a caution displayed on lap 98 which ended
with 105 laps required to actually seal the deal which he easily did on the two
lap sprint.
“We should have won this the past couple years,” Fuller said. “I got passed with
one to go two years ago and last year backed it into the fence when I hit some
oil. I wanted to come down here and win this series race. I love this track.
This is the way it should be. You can pass in three or four grooves.”
Miller vaulted ahead of J.T. Spence on the start and maintained a five to eight
car margin throughout the 25-lap event. A one lap dash was staged when modified
winner, Fuller, running eighth had the suspension break on the front stretch.
Miller sped the final lap with several lengths over Spence to record his 22nd
career win.
“I had to do something,” Miller said. “Last night (at Williams Grove) was really
kind of embarrassing. It was the first race out and everyone had their jitters
including me. I felt like more at home tonight. The car was pretty smooth and
had good traction. The Rocket car is awesome. It fits my driving style. I love
coming here, it’s always good racing and I enjoy it. It’s been good to me.”
With the DIRT event lined up by luck of the draw for the first 12 drivers,
Justin Haers sprung from the outside ahead of Danny Johnson with Billy Decker
taking second on lap six. Brett Hearn came from ninth and took third on lap 13
with Dale Planck and Gary Tompkins moving into the top five three laps later.
Decker grabbed the top spot on lap 26 while Fuller was into fourth and then
ready to challenge for the lead five circuits later.
Once out front, Fuller put distance between himself and Decker and by a lap 40
yellow, was more than two seconds ahead. Following the restart, it took several
laps for Tompkins to take second on lap 46.
Into the second 50 circuits, Fuller led Tompkins and Hearn with Hearn taking
second on lap 60 while Fuller again started to stretch his lead and enter lapped
traffic by the 78th circuit. In doing so, his lead of more than three seconds
also was filled with one to five lapped cars as Tompkins had regained the runner
up spot on the 72nd lap.
With two laps remaining and Fuller lapping up to the 11th place car, the yellow
was displayed setting up a two lap finish. Hearn sped around the outside of
Tompkins off the fourth turn to steal the runner up spot by not more than a foot
at the line. Decker and 26th starting Rick Laubach and previous weeks winner in
the small block event, completed the top five. Frank Cozze was sixth with Matt
Shepard, from 17th, Steve Paine, Haers, and 22nd starter, Vic Coffey, completing
the top ten.
Heat winners were Haers, Cozze, Dale Planck, Brian Swartzlander/Jimmy Phelps
(tie) with Alan Johnson winning the consolation. Billy Decker was the quickest
in time trials for the third consecutive year with a lap of 19.135 seconds.
With the green in the air, Miller quickly grabbed the top spot over Spence as
two time winner, Gary Stuhler took third from Coffey on the second lap while
tenth starter Brian Booze emerged from a multiple car challenge to take over
fifth on lap six.
Miller easily held a ten length lead over Spence who also had the same over
Stuhler until a lap 16 yellow. While Miller again controlled the point, Booze
worked on Stuhler until getting the third spot on lap 18. Frankie Plessinger, up
from 14th, moved into fifth two laps later and was challenging Stuhler for the
fourth spot when Fuller’s car broke the suspension on the white flag lap while
running ninth.
Miller and Spence secured their finishing positions in the final circuit while
Stuhler went for the outside and stole third from Booze off the final turn and
Decker also got past Plessinger for fifth. Ronnie DeHaven started and ended
seventh with Roy Deese Jr., Darryl Hills, from 20th and Brent Smith completing
the top ten.
Heat winners for the 28 entries were Coffey, Spence and Miller with Alan Sagi
winning the consolation. Fuller, Decker and Coffey did double duty.
Racing continues Easter weekend with another Saturday evening program. It’s Fan
Appreciation Day as the weekly divisions of Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models,
Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman and Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure
stocks take to the track in their first point races. Fan Admission into the
grandstands is only $7.00.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with the grandstands at 4 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6 p.m.
followed by feature racing. Check the speedway website for any changes in
weather at:

Stuhler scores LM #120 as Laubach gains Small Block Octoberfest spot
Hagerstown, Md. – Postponed two weeks and a
day, it didn’t matter to Hagerstown Speedway’s opening day winner Gary Stuhler.
He’s now two for two in the Cindy Rowe late models and increased his career
total at Frank Plessinger’s Maryland oval to 120 during the 60th Anniversary
season. Sunday also was a good day for the “Quaker Shaker,” Rick Laubach, who
scored his first ever Hagerstown small block triumph that was worth a guaranteed
starting spot in the Octoberfest 350.
Stuhler, of Greencastle, Pa., who started from the pole in a four car inversion,
had defending champion Roy Deese Jr. alongside as Deese got into the first turn
first. Deese battled a tight race car until exiting the second turn on lap 14
and bobbled just enough as Stuhler seized the opportunity and charged around the
outside and continued on to claim victory over Deese by 2.668 seconds.
“I don’t know what happened to Roy there…he was pretty good,” Stuhler said. “I
didn’t think I was going to be able to get him and I just figured I was going to
run second .I thought he broke, but saw on the scoreboard he was still second.
He got out of the gas and we just lucked out, He had the race won, I think
because it was going to be tough to get around him.”
Laubach, from Quakertown, Pa. also began from the pole in a six car inversion
and led all the way, much to his own pace despite opening day winner Brett Hearn
trailing. With four cautions in the final four laps and Richie Pratt Jr. taking
second on lap 27 and having two chances, Laubach led by a length at the
checkered.
“It doesn’t hurt to start on the pole, that’s for sure, but I’ve already started
on the pole here and finished last so I know how to do it,” Laubach said. “One
thing about here was I could see my guys in the infield and they let me know I
had a big lead so I wasn’t pushing it. I liked to get a couple buffers, but it
just worked out.”
Turned loose under green, Deese Jr. sped ahead entering the first turn while
Stuhler’s biggest challenge was on the first circuit. Stuhler remained in
Deese’s shadow while D. J. Myers and J. T. Spence dropped Mike Knight back two
positions on the fourth lap.
Following an 11th lap restart, Stuhler still was firmly fixed to Deese’s rear
bumper until Deese was suddenly out of shape on the backstretch and before he
gathered it in, Stuhler had mashed the throttle and past him on the outside.
After a lap 17 restart, Stuhler was comfortably pulling away and had the
pleasure of more than three seconds when a yellow was called for debris on the
26th circuit.
The checkered waved four laps later with Stuhler dashing across the finish 2.668
seconds ahead of Deese and Myers. Bo Feathers, from 11th, got around Spence on
the 18th circuit to end fourth with Spence fifth. David Williams was sixth,
followed by Keith Jackson, Jared Miley, Andy Fries and 16th starting Rodney
Sweitzer
“Some people think that it’s good to start from the pole, Stuhler said. “I
usually like to start back a little bit so I know what I have. It’s hard to stay
up front for 30 laps. If I pass a couple cars, I know what I’m like and what
they‘re like and I can judge what the outcome of the race is going to be.”
Heat winners were Knight, Myers, Deese and Stuhler with Paul Crowl and Tim
Wilson winning the two consolations for the 39 entries.
Laubach rolled into the first turn on the wave of the green as Hearn powered
into second ahead of outside pole sitter Sean Merkel. Cautions on the sixth,
eighth and 12th laps gave Hearn every opportunity to overtake Laubach, but he
was strong on the restarts and following the 12th restart, he left Hearn behind
and continued to stretch his lead to more than three seconds by the time he
caught and overtook a car at the rear of the field.
Then came his potentially worst problem of the day when a lap 26 caution put
Hearn back on his bumper. On that restart, Pratt, who used the outside to gain
position, charged around Hearn to take second on the restart. The yellow then
reappeared on lap 28, again on the restart and once more on the white flag lap,
but Laubach went undaunted to the checkered by a length over Pratt.
Hearn came home third with Kevin Hirthler and Merkel completing the top five.
Ryan Watt came from tenth to finish sixth ahead of Mark Frankhouser, Rich
Scagliotta, Dave Dubois and Paul Kinney.
“We put this car together for Syracuse last year and went up there and almost
won,” Laubach said. “We ran strong the rest of the year and didn’t touch
anything. We pulled the motor and freshened up and put it in on Thursday and
said ‘Lets go to Hagerstown.’”
Laubach was reminded about the win being the Octoberfest qualifier, to which he
responded, “That’s a big relief. I didn’t even think of that. That’s even better
yet. I know how that is when you come down here in October and there are 80 cars
and you just never know. That’s great.”
Heat winners for the 18 entries were Hirthler and Pratt Jr.
Racing continues and switches to the first Saturday night race of the season,
this Saturday, March 31 as the Advanced Auto Parts Super DIRT Series big block
modifieds arrive for their 100- lap season opener. The Cindy Rowe Auto Glass
late models are also on the schedule for a 25-lap feature event.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with the grandstands at 4 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6 p.m.
followed by DIRT time trials and feature racing. Check the speedway website for
any changes in the weather at:

GROUNDHOG DUMPS ON HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY FANS ... AGAIN
Hagerstown Speedway looses another show to the weather. The Cindy Rowe
Auto Glass late models and the big block modifieds set for March 17th
has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
Sleet and freezing rain began falling early Friday morning and changed
to all snow by early afternoon. The forecast is calling for snow to
continue into Friday night and accumulate 4 to 8 inches forcing Promoter
Frank Plessinger to cancel for the second week in a row.
"We just can't get a break" said Plessinger, "the weather has been
beautiful during the week but we cannot get a nice weekend". "The
modifieds drivers really enjoy coming to Hagerstown and run with the
late models, it is a shame that the weather will not cooperate".
Just a reminder, next Saturday, March 24th, Hagerstown will host the
late models and the Octoberfest qualifier for the small block modifieds
that was rescheduled from March 10th. Warm-ups begin at 1 p.m. with
race time approximately 1:30 p.m. Grandstands open at 11 A.M. pits at 10
A.M.
The Advanced Auto Parts SUPER DIRT SERIES will return to Hagerstown
Speedway Saturday evening, March 31st. For additional information,
contact the speedway office at 301-582-0640 or website at
www.hagerstownspeedway.com.
HAGERSTOWN CANCELS PROGRAM OF LATE MODELS/SMALL BLOCKS
HAGERSTOWN, MD –Weather conditions presented this week are forcing Hagerstown
Speedway to suspend this weekend’s program comprised of the Cindy Rowe Auto
Glass late models and the Octoberfest Qualifier for the small block modifieds
set for March 10th.
The entire program will be rescheduled for Saturday March 24th in place of the
Grand Opening for the regular weekly divisions. The opening program for the
weekly divisions will be Saturday, April 7th.
While Hagerstown Speedway braved chilly temperatures and winds of last Sunday to
proceed with the first program of the 60th Anniversary season with Gary Stuhler
and Brett Hearn already gaining starting positions for the Octoberfest, it will
not be so lucky this weekend.
“We worked hard to get the track ready for last weekend, but this week’s snow
and low temperatures are an indication that winter is still here and if the
temperatures do rise some, the ground conditions will not be promising,”
Promoter Frank Plessinger said. “We thought it best to just postpone this
program and allow people to adjust their plans.”
Next Saturday, March 17th, Hagerstown will continue with its schedule which
consists of the Cindy Rowe late models and another appearance by the big block
modifieds. It will be the final tune up for the big blocks before the Advanced
Auto Parts DIRT Motorsports event scheduled for Saturday evening, March 31st.
As a reminder, should weather problems be present on the 17th show, Sunday will
be used as a back-up date
Warm-ups begin at 1 p.m. with race time approximately 1:30 p.m. Gates open at 11
A.M. For additional information, contact the speedway office at 301-582-0640 or
visit the speedway’s website at:

Stuhler and Hearn share opening wins in Octoberfest Qualifiers
Hagerstown, Md. – Gary Stuhler and Brett Hearn, both the leading feature winners
in their respective divisions, had to wait an extra day and a chilly one at
that, but both were successful in recording victories on Sunday’s Octoberfest
Qualifier opening day event at Hagerstown Speedway’s for their 60th Anniversary
season. Both now have guaranteed starting spots in the Octoberfest scheduled
October 27-28 while Hearn’s win also gave him a position in the Syracuse
Nationals, as the previous weeks February 24th opener was cancelled.
Stuhler, of Greencastle, Pa, increased his Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late model wins
to 119 while also the triumph was his third in the past five seasons, having won
the openers in both 2003 and 2004. Hearn, of Sussex, NJ, increased his total
with the big block modified win to 22, while he has an attachment for opening
day wins. He’s won the last five consecutively.
Stuhler began from seventh and worked the outside to finally reel in Ronnie
DeHaven Jr. exiting the fourth turn to lead the ninth lap.
“I was searching around on the race track and some places were graying up where
you needed to be, but you could pretty much run where you wanted to run,”
Stuhler said. “We were off a little bit but it’s the beginning of the year. We
just got off last year and didn’t get it figured out. We have to work on our
shock program and try to get a little better.”
Hearn began from sixth and made a bold outside move on the backstretch to
advance into second behind Brian Weaver by lap two. He attempted a pass in turn
four on lap four, but had to regroup and later took the lead for good on lap 12.
“I had it rolling really good on the top and I thought I’d snooker him,” Hearn
said. “I got by him and he did a slide job on me so we had to slow down there a
second and rethink this a little bit. We kept working on it until we did get
him.”
“We have success here in the early season stuff and we’re tuning up for the
(DIRT) series when we’ll get back the end of the March. It’s good for the team
and team morale to start off with a win here and get rolling.”
With a six car inverted start, the initial late model start was called when
fifth starting Brent Smith looped his car in the first turn while trying to get
inside Ray Kable Jr. On the restart, DeHaven powered in front of Matt Parks and
Paul Crowl while Stuhler was into fourth by the third lap. Stuhler went outside
of Crowl, then Parks and continued on to grasp the lead from DeHaven on lap
nine.
Following a lap 12 for a piece of debris from another car, Stuhler pulled out to
a two second advantage until a lap 28 caution, but easily maintained his grip on
the track to score the victory by three lengths over DeHaven.
“I kind of got into a rhythm where I had a little bit of a lead on them and then
that yellow came out,” Stuhler said. “I just knew I had to make two good ones
there at the end.”
Parks maintained his third place finish over Crowl and Devin Friese with J. T.
Spence coming from 14th to sixth. Darryl Hills ended seventh with Smith
rebounding for eighth over Kable and 16th starting Jared Miley.
With another car inverted start, Weaver got ahead of Kevin Hirthler on the
start, but soon had Hearn challenging him after an outside move to advance into
second. Hearn sized the situation and made his move on the fourth lap, but
Weaver rebuffed the effort as Hearn dropped back to regroup. He regained his
composure and came back to take the point on the 12th circuit.
Once in front and following a 15th lap yellow for fourth running Mike Colsten,
Hearn was not challenged as he stretched out a comfortable lead and only slowed
some as he approached the rear of the field on the final circuit to win by ten
lengths.
“I kept watching the computer and got to bed about midnight and thought ‘those
guys must be nuts, there’s no way there’re racing tomorrow’”, Hearn said “This
place is unbelievable. The Plessinger family, they get this place so perfect
every time you come here. It’s amazing after a winter to have a track like
this.”
Weaver was second followed by Jimmy Phelps, Richie Pratt Jr., and Rick Laubach.
Sixth went to Hirthler with Frank Cozze, A.J. Romano, Jeremy Paup, from 19th,
and Mark Byram to complete the top ten.
Racing continues Saturday, March 10th with late models and small block modifieds
in 30- lap features. This time the small blocks will be vying for a guaranteed
spot in the Octoberfest. Should weather be a factor, the race may be postponed
until Sunday. Pit gates open at 10 a.m. with the grandstands at 11 a.m. Warm-ups
are at 1 p.m. and racing at approximately 1:30.

HAGERSTOWN’S 2007 SCHEDULE AIMS TO PLEASE
ALL
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Hagerstown Speedway began its 60th Anniversary season at the
Motorsports 2007 show in Atlantic City, NJ and distributed its new and exciting
schedule. Since then, the weeks and days get closer to “show time.”
Promoter Frank Plessinger has again lined up a program that offers a variety of
motorsports events to the liking of any race fan with the weekly program of late
models, late model sportsman and V8 pure stocks to the exciting AMA motorcycles
to the popular Monster Truck Nationals along with open wheel sprints, demolition
derbies and enduro events.
The 60th season gets underway Saturday, February 24th with the East Coast opener
for late models and big block modifieds. This will be the first of six visits
for the modifieds with four consecutive events scheduled throughout March.
Following the opener where modifieds are racing for a guaranteed spot in the
October Syracuse event, late models and modifieds will be racing for guaranteed
spots in Hagerstown’s Octoberfest.
As a reminder, Hagerstown has revised its schedule to reflect ALL Saturday race
dates with the first four programs including modifieds using Sunday as a make up
date if required.
The final Saturday afternoon program is the Grand Opening for the weekly
divisions and followed by the first evening program on March 31 for the Advance
Auto Parts DIRT Series 100-lap big block modified event.
Hagerstown and Winchester Speedways again join forces for two weekends with the
Shootout I and II series on Friday April 20th and Saturday June 16th.
The first of several sanctioned events is April 28 with the Lucas Oil Series
50-lap 26th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic.
This season, the World of Outlaw Late Model Series is on the program twice with
their first appearance for the 26th Annual Conococheague 50-lap event on June
2nd. The series returns seven weeks later for the 60th Anniversary 60-lap event
on July 21st.
The newly formed Independent Racing Series (IRS) is looking to fill the void
from the former STARS late model organization and is scheduled August 4th for
the 27th Annual Shorty Bowers Bull Durham Championship. The event is now a
40-lap event in lieu of the former twin 20-lap format.
Of course, several non-sanctioned events remain over the holiday periods and
include the 12th Annual Richard Bonebrake Memorial on May 26th, the 42nd Annual
Johnny Roberts Memorial on June 30th, and the 22nd Annual McBee/Hays
Championship on September 1st.
Sprint and open wheeled fans will find a variety of events on the schedule as
June 9 will see the arrival of the USAC Wingless Sprints that is sure to bring
about a different style of racing compared to the winged sprints of this area.
Hagerstown will again be the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Speedweek with a
special mid-week show on Wednesday, July 4th and joined by an EMMR (Eastern
Museum of Motorsports Racing) exhibition. The 410 super sprints return for the
Octoberfest on October 27-28.
For the first time in ten years, the URC sprints will again be part of their
60th anniversary as well as the speedways with a visitation on August 18th in
conjunction with the $2,500 to win Ernie’s 25 Special for the late models.
The Monster Truck Nationals will invade the speedway in July for a three day
show on July 13-15 and two weeks later, the two-wheelers of the AMA Flat Track
Championship return for the 26th Annual Hub City Classic on July 28th.
The late model sportsman will have an extra distance event in the Hoosier Daddy
25 on June 16th while the V8 pure stocks get their recognition in the 12th
Annual Cornett Tribute and Ernie’s Salvage Yard Special on August 25th. The 21st
Annual Tommy Thompson Demo Derby is set for September 8th while the enduro cars
run each month and have their championship event the same night.
Nearing the close of the season, the Hub City National 150 is moved back a week
to September 14-15 and will again run under the lights in the three 50-lap
segment program. The final weekend, September 22nd, Shamrock Inn will host the
1st Annual Small Car Nationals for the late model sportsman, pure stocks and
four cylinders.
The Octoberfest 350 will complete the season on October 27-28 with $10,000 going
to winners in the late models, big block modifieds, super sprints and small
block modifieds.
General admission prices for weekly regular shows are $10.00 with Friday, May 25
a completely free night for a late model sportsman feature event. A Fan
Appreciation night is scheduled April 7th with a $7.00 admission.

LATE MODELS AND MODIFIEDS SET TO OPEN
HAGERSTOWN IN TWO WEEKS
HAGERSTOWN, MD. - Weather permitting, Hagerstown Speedway is ready to usher in
its 60th Anniversary season East Coast opener on Saturday afternoon, February
24th at 1:00 p.m.
Traditionally a Saturday night track throughout the season with the first
several weeks opening on Sundays, Hagerstown has made an important change in its
schedule this year. ALL shows are scheduled on Saturday with Sunday being used
as a back up date for any weather related issues. This will be in effect for
only the first four programs on the schedule where modifieds are part of the
program.
Along with the late models getting their first start anywhere, the Northeast’s
big block modifieds join the program for the Syracuse qualifier with the feature
winner gaining a guaranteed starting spot for the divisions mid October event at
the one mile Syracuse facility.
Gates will open at 11:00 a.m. with warm-ups to begin at 1:00 p.m. and race time
at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Both features will be 35 laps in distance and promoter Frank Plessinger has
posted $2,000 to the winner of each event.
Should weather become a factor on Saturday, the Speedway will retry on Sunday,
the 25th at the same times.
Reviewing the past five seasons, weather has maintained control all but once.
Last year, the program was delayed a week with Frankie Plessinger taking the
late model win and Brett Hearn in the modified. In fact, Hearn has laid claim to
wins in the past four openers. The opening program was again one week late in
2004 when Gary Stuhler scored the opener. In 2003 and 2005, Mother Nature
refused to give in with a four week delay each of those years as Stuhler also
was the 2003 winner and Jeremy Miller scored in 2005. In 2002, the program went
as scheduled with John Mason posting the late model win and Jamie Mills
recording his only Hagerstown triumph.
This will be the first of six visits by the modifieds to Hagerstown during 2007.
For additional information, contact the speedway office at (301) 582-0640.
Information also is located on the Speedway‘s website:
www.hagerstownspeedway.com.

HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY KICKS OFF THE 60TH
SEASON AT ATLANTIC CITY
Hagerstown, MD. - The 60th season is underway for Hagerstown Speedway following
the January 12-14 weekend in Atlantic City, NY for the Motorsports 2007 show.
Hagerstown has been an active participant since the first show held 22 years
ago. This was the inaugural event held at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Representing the speedway this year was ten year veteran, Mike Lupfer, of
Shermans Dale, Pa., who finished tenth in the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point
standings last season.
“Whey they asked, I really wanted to do it, but I had to check with dad because
I was working on the house,” Lupfer, a home builder by profession, said. “He
wanted to do it too, so he said he’d get the car ready. He put a lot of time in
it to get it all together. I knew they draw a big crowd for that and I always
thought it would be nice to bring the car and get the exposure and help get my
name out there.”
Lupfer, only 26, who has been at the race tracks since he was in diapers, has
been racing full time at Hagerstown since 2002 after beginning his career at
Port Royal in 1997. He has two wins to his credit at Port and one at Susquehanna
but has a Hagerstown triumph on his wish list.
Lupfer’s dad, Allen, has racing ties dating back to 1976 when he began helping
with a sprint car at Port Royal, which later led to owning limited late models
at Silver Spring Speedway and later, a late model that won the Port championship
with Jeff Smith driving.
After racing go karts, Lupfer moved right into late models at age 16.
Lupfer said, “It was a big jump but it got to the point that we had to make a
move. Dad had all the equipment so we jumped into it without having to buy
anything.”
Just the previous weekend, having completed and moved into his new house, Lupfer
and his dad traveled to Indiana for a Mastersbilt Chassis seminar.
“I’ve had a Mastersbilt all but two times,” Lupfer said.” This was the first
time we’d ever done anything like that. We learned a lot of information that
will help us out on how to set the car up for different race track conditions
and about other components on the car.”
After finishing tenth in points, Lupfer is hoping for a better season in 2007.
“Last year we really struggled,” he said. “I didn’t get to put a lot of time in
the race car as I took a lot of my time building the house. Some of it was due
to being a newer car that we got halfway through the season. We had the other
car going half decent, then got the new one and kind of struggled with it a
little bit. It takes a little bit of time to figure out a new car and what to do
to it to be consistent. I hope we can get it figured out at the beginning of the
year.”
The next event on the schedule is the 22nd Annual Race A Rama car show held at
the Hagerstown Valley Mall on February 21-23.
With a change to all Saturday racing this season, the first scheduled race is
set for Saturday, the 24th with late models and the big block modifieds in the
Syracuse Qualifier. Each feature will be 35 laps. Should weather interfere,
Sunday the 25th is held as a back up date.
Additional information about the upcoming season and including pictures of
Lupfer’s race car on display are on the speedway’s website:
www.hagerstownspeedway.com.
